CCTV footage recorded in Holland captured the 56-year-old driver's poorly-judged attempt.
CCTV footage shows a vehicle flying up one side of the bridge as the driver tries to launch across a five metre gap, 9News reported.
The silver station wagon smashes into the edge of the structure, before careening into the water below.
Local police say the driver passed underneath a security barrier in order to make the jump.
The 56-year-old survived the accident and was taken to hospital with broken ribs and a punctured lung.

In the annals of spectacular fails, there needs to be a spot for this 56-year-old station wagon driver in Holland who passed underneath a drawbridge security barrier this week and channeled his inner Vin Diesel for what turned out to be an very un-Fast & Furious-like jump. Miraculously, he was uninjured in the crash (but he did break several ribs while climbing out of the water).
